Forging Services

As part of our portfolio of services, High-Performance Alloys, Inc. offers open die forging. Our equipment resources include a 750 ton Lake Erie forging press on which we process small lots, which is advantageous for projects that involve prototype, research, and low volume requirements. This press is outfitted with three material handling manipulators and programmable controls with manual override, which allows the operator to manipulate the process to accommodate a broad range of requirements. Along with producing round, square, and rectangular bar, we perform upsetting and planishing of billet, reduce extruded bar to improve grain structure, and convert materials into useful sizes and lengths. We also leverage our forging press to manufacture products such as gears, flanges, shafts, tools, and other items with high strength requirements.

With variable press rate adjustment, our forging process fits many corrosion-resistant, wear-resistant, and high-temperature alloys. Examples include Hastelloy®, Inconel®, Monel®, and Nitronic®. We also process cobalt-based alloys, stainless steel, tantalum, titanium, and others. Our forging press capacity enables us to produce output measuring from as small as 3″ in width x 1″ in height or as large as 18″ in width x 18″ in height. Maximum input weight is 3,000 lbs.

Forging improves the grain structure and the density of the raw material. With the grain flow oriented to the shape of the output, properties such as fatigue strength, ductility, and toughness are enhanced. Our engineers can work with you to vary metallurgical properties through alloy selection, output configuration, and other processes. We offer full metallurgical testing for characterizing each batch and confirming it meets your specifications and performance requirements. Other services we provide along with forging include cleaning, grinding, heat treating, machining, and polishing. We produce forged products in compliance with many industry standards.
