Isopropanol is a colorless liquid. It is used as a cleaning and dehydrating agent in the pharmaceutical, cosmetics, plastics, spices, coatings, and electronic industries. It is used to make PCB holes conductive and clean CD/DVD parts, floppy disks, and magnetic tape. It is employed as a reagent for analyte detection and as a solvent and extractant in labs. It is used for fuel pipelines as a deicing agent and gasoline additive. It is used to prepare scrubbing liquid, hand and body lotion, preservatives, and as a pharmaceutical reddening agent. It is used in the extraction of DNA and RNA, to examine cell viability by MTT assay, for the detection of hydroxyproline levels and in microarray hybridization.
