Glycerine, also known as glycerol is a colorless liquid. It is used as a lubricant, an emollient, and an antifreeze agent. It is employed as a moisturizer in cosmetics and as an ingredient to prepare microchips, plastics, colorings, and toothpaste. In the medical area, it is used in tablets or as an infusion to treat edema. It is also used as a gargle, cough medicine, anesthetic, and an additive in antibiotics/antiseptics. It is served as an emollient and humectant in foodstuffs and as a solvent for flavors and food colorings in beverages.
