Melamine is a white solid. It is used as a flame retardant, plasticizer, and textile dye, and to produce melamine-formaldehyde resin. It is used in decorating plates, coherent agent, intensifier for paper currency, water-saving agent for cement, and tanning agent for leather. It is employed as a nitrogen source to prepare of nitrogen-doped graphene at large scale. It acts as a heterogeneous catalyst with ZnI2 (lewis acid) for carbon dioxide to cyclic carbonates transformation.
