Glutaraldehyde

Glutaraldehyde is a colorless liquid. It is used as a cross-linking agent for gelatin, poly(vinyl alcohol), and polyheptapeptides, for coupling peptides onto carrier proteins and immobilization of antibodies and antigens and as a disinfectant in industries and hospitals. It acts as an intermediate for the production of resins, dyestuffs, and photographic films. It is utilized as a fixative for electron microscopy, for preserving proteins on agarose beads, and for the activation of polystyrene and glass.
