Sodium formate, the sodium salt of formic acid is a white solid. It is used as a noble metal precipitant/buffering agent in analytical chemistry, and as an acidulant in the textile industry. It is used as an electroplating agent, reducing agent, mordant, complexing agent, and astringent. It is used in dyeing/printing fabrics, tanning leather, preparing organic chemicals, photographic fixing baths, industrial drilling and fracking, and de-icer at airports.
