2-Butanone peroxide is a colorless liquid. It is used as an initiator for unsaturated polyester resins. It is employed as a catalyst for free radical polymerization and as a polymerization initiator for unsaturated olefin. It is also useful for the oxidation of nucleoside phosphites into phosphates. It is utilized as a curing agent in the manufacture of adhesives, plastics, fiberglass, and lacquers.
