Oxalic acid the simplest dicarboxylic acid is a white solid. It is used as a mordant for dye, as a reducing agent in photographic films, as a bleaching agent to remove rust, reducing agent for ceramics/pigments, as a chelating agent for metal ions, as a cleanser in metallurgy, as an analytical reagent in labs, and as a grinding agent to polish marble. It is used in wastewater purification to eradicate calcium.
