Packing case gaskets are a critical component to the packing caseassembly. Any damage to the gasket will cause leakage when the packingcase is installed in the stuffing box. Because of interaction of certaingases on various metals, different materials are used in certainapplications. Copper is used in Air service, Inert gases, nitrogen, sweetnatural gas, methane, ethane, oxygen, argon and ethylene. Soft Iron isused in sour natural gas, ammonia, and CO2. Monel is used in chlorine andvinyl chloride. Aluminum is used when specified by the Original EquipmentManufacturer.
