The Safe Working Load (SWL) is the weight that will be transported inside the bulk bag. The Safety Factor multiplied by the Safe Working Load is the temporary maximum weight capacity of a bulk bag. A 5:1 Safety Factor for instance will indicate that a 2000 lb SWL bag has been tested to withstand 10,000 lb, 6:1 at 12,000 lb and so on. This is important due to the unexpected increases in weight that a FIBC will undergo. For instance, although you may weigh 175 lb, if you jump upon your bathroom scale you will register much higher. If a forklift truck is moving a bulk bag and runs over a 2×4 there is the same effect. A UN bag is usually designed with longer inserted lift-loops, sewn more securely, a perimeter band, and heavier fabric top with a heavier body.
