Sodium Metabisulfite

Sodium metabisulfite is a colorless inorganic solid. It is used as an antioxidant/reducing agent in photographic film, an antioxidant/preservative in foodstuffs, a corrosion inhibitor in the oil/gas industry, a bleaching agent in coconut cream, and a laboratory reagent. It is used to preserve flavor and color, and to retard microorganism growth in dried fruits. It is utilized in gold precipitation and in wastewater treatment to eliminate chromium.
